WHAT TO EXPECT

At AVRTC you never have to worry about what will happen next in your treatment journey.

From the moment you walk through our doors, we will listen to your needs and concerns, educate you on all available treatment options, and empower you along every step of your treatment journey.

Step 1: Patient Consultation

  • Register at the front desk (unless it is a Telemed visit)
  • A member of the nursing team will escort you to the exam room for screening, vitals, and an initial nursing assessment
  • One of our doctors will have reviewed your information and join you in the exam room to discuss your needs and complete further evaluation
  • If treatment is indicated, we will then schedule your CT simulation for a later date and provide you with informational resources

Step 2: CT Simulation

  • After arriving, your physician will again go over the consent form and answer any questions you may have
  • Our radiation therapist will then utilize customized devices to keep you steady in a comfortable treatment position
  • You will then complete a CT scan in the treatment position to provide your planning team your precise measurements on which your plan is designed
  • We will then schedule your clinical simulation and initial treatment appointment

Step 3: Clinical Simulation

  • After arriving, we will guide you through a pre-treatment “dry run” (this may be the same day as your first radiation treatment or prior to it)

Step 4: First Treatment

  • You will begin your first session of customized treatment, and our team will be by your side every step of the way
  • After treatment, one of the nursing team members will meet with you to provide support and answer any questions you may have

Step 5: Ongoing Treatment

  • Throughout the duration of your treatment, one of our doctors will meet with you each week to address side effects, answer questions, and adjust treatment (if necessary)

Step 6: Last Day of Treatment

  • After your last radiation treatment, one of our doctors will meet with you to discuss next steps and schedule a follow-up appointment
  • A summary of your treatment will be communicated to your care team and available to you

Step 7: Follow-up Appointment

  • One of the nursing team members will escort you to the exam room for a post-treatment assessment
  • Your physician will meet with you to evaluate, go over test results and discuss post-treatment plans
