OUR STORY

The History of Anchorage & Valley Radiation Therapy Centers

As recently as the 1990s, Alaskan cancer patients did not have easy access to professional and compassionate radiation treatment. If you wanted state-of-the-art, physician-owned radiation therapy, you had to travel out of state. But this would soon change.

In 1993, we opened the Anchorage Radiation Therapy Center on the first floor of the Alaska Regional Hospital. For the first time, Alaskans could receive state-of-the-art cancer treatment in their home state. Anchorage Radiation Therapy Center soon grew to become the largest radiation therapy center in Alaska.

During this time, the Mat-Su Regional Medical Center opened its doors in 2006. To continue our mission of providing Alaskans with accessible, state-of-the-art cancer treatment, the Anchorage Radiation Therapy Center expanded to the Mat-Su Valley and began operations on the campus of this new hospital. Thanks to this expansion, radiation therapy became even more accessible to Alaskans.

Fast-forward to today and the Anchorage and Valley Radiation Therapy Centers are still the leading radiation therapy providers in Alaska. By partnering with Northwest Medical Physics, one of the largest medical physics companies in the country, we are able to provide Alaskans with the best technical equipment in the world, including the only Gamma Knife facility in Alaska.

But what truly sets us apart is our commitment to compassionate care – our commitment to you. We believe that you shouldn’t have to travel far from home to receive top-of-the-line radiation treatment, and every member of our team is committed to living out that mission each time a patient walks through the doors of our Anchorage and Mat-Su Valley locations.
